Return to School

Prep- Grade 1 and 2 students return Tuesday May 26th; Grades 3-6 return Tuesday June 9th

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to Term 2 at school – almost! Thank you for all the hard work you have done over the past weeks to support your child’s/children’s learning. We know how challenging it has been at times so congratulate you on your persistence and help. Your children are lucky to have you as parents!

Whilst we are back at school we need to be very mindful that the threat of coronavirus remains very real. The Department of Education has given very clear directives for how schools should manage this threat – particularly amongst adults in the school and our community. For this reason, they have directed that parents must not be on school grounds and social distancing of adults (including school staff) must be maintained.

In order to comply with this directive only students and staff will be able to enter the school grounds and they must enter and leave by the specified gate, and at the times listed. This will also help alleviate car parking issues and possible congestion at the school gates helping to maintain social distancing.

The gate your child/children will use is based on the location of your only, or youngest child’s classroom.

Block A (the office building – Grades 34A, 34B, and all 5/6 grades) – Warringa Crescent gate

                Block B – (12A, 12B, 12C, 12D, 34C, 34D, 34E, 34F) – Powell Drive gate

BER (All Prep grades and Grades 12E, 12F, 12G) Madison Avenue gate

Unless attending Before School Care no child may enter the school grounds before 8.40am. All external gates will be locked prior to this. The gates will be unlocked, and a staff member present to greet children at 8.40am. PLEASE do not congregate outside gates and please ensure children who walk/ride independently from home do not arrive before 8.40am.  It is important that we – especially adults – remain at least 1.5 metres from each other. There are marks on the footpath to indicate this spacing.

There will also be different dismissal times for your children with particular gates specified. There will be a staff member at the specified gate and your child/ children will not be allowed to exit the school grounds until we see you. We will remain inside the school grounds with the children so you will need to come to the gate and we will send your child/ children to you. This is to ensure your child’s safety. More information will be made available later this week so you know what time your child will be dismissed from school.

The only exception to this is if your child/ children usually walk or ride from home to school unaccompanied. In this case they will be dismissed at the usual time of 3pm.

We recognise that this may be stressful for your children and you, but the safety of all is our priority.  We must remain vigilant to ensure we continue to be well throughout this period.

There is a Social Story included on this webpage you may like to use with your child/ children to help explain these changes.

Thank you again for your amazing support and cooperation. We will get through this together.

Kind regards,

Lyn Vincent
